A Primer on Asset Protection Law

Clients often ask us about the best way to protect their assets from unnecessary taxation, risk, and potential unknown creditors. Other clients are surprised when we explain that their assets may be exposed to these kinds of liabilities.

A Primer on Asset Protection Law

There is a common misperception that asset protection in Mesa, AZ is only for the super-wealthy, but our experience has shown that this just isn’t true. Everybody’s situation is different, but there are important planning considerations for entrepreneurs and business owners. There are also unique planning opportunities for families of much more modest means that may help reduce the risk of devastating medical and/or nursing home expenses. Foreign nationals immigrating to the United States may not be aware of the significant tax liabilities that may be imposed on them upon immigrating to the United States. Some families are not aware of the opportunities that they may have to protect family assets from the spendthrift children or the creditors of other family members.

Our goal is to help our clients understand and plan for these types of issues. As a preliminary step in that process, we’ve developed the next blog series to serve as a primer on various asset protection strategies that we deal with on a regular basis, but that may or may not be familiar to most people.

The next series of blog posts will address the following asset protection legal issues:

  • Asset Protection for Businesses and Business Owners
  • Asset Protection for Families of Modest Means Worried about Long Term Nursing-Home Care
  • Protecting Inheritances Left to Family
  • Pre-Immigration Asset Protection Planning
  • Asset Protection for High Net Worth Individuals and Families

Stay tuned for the asset protection series to begin soon. In the meantime, if you have any questions about your unique circumstances and the planning opportunities that may be available to you, please feel free to contact the asset protection attorneys at the Gunderson Law Group, P.C. in Mesa, Arizona.
